Daley Tocher Today marks the end of the NHL season with what will surely be a thrilling and emotional Stanley Cup Finals Game 7. No matter the outcome, my nights are gonna be a lot more open for the next four months.

Ah yes, the successcaltor fiasco of '07.

Daley Tocher I had two games this weekend. I lost both, but can safely say I was team MVP. That doesn't get this yucky taste out of my mouth.

Sounds like you should play in a more advanced league. Can't improve much when you're the best out there.
Daley Tocher   at 2:17pm May 03
Not always true, Chris. As a goalie, being on a terrible team is often the best way to get good practice.

Daley Tocher Shawn Hunwick is my biggest little hero. At 5'6" (which I personally think is a 2 inch embellishment), his 40 save shutout last night against Frozen Four favorite North Dakota put his Michigan squad into the finals. Check out his pic here, and keep in mind that 1) he's wearing skates that add a few inches to height, and 2) the net is only 4 feet tall: http://www.annarbor.com/assets_c/2010/03/Shawn-Hunwick-03310-thumb-537x471-34230.jpg

Daley Tocher Got a call from a Silver Division house league team that was looking for a goalie just 45 minutes before their first game of the season. We won 4-0. My first game of league hockey in a while went pretty well!

I'm not currently seeking representation, Patrick. Thanks, though.

Daley Tocher Just finished house league hockey free agent tryouts. Went for the Silver (2nd best) league to ease my way back into competitive hockey. Had a shut out in the scrimmage, should have probably gone for Gold... But baby steps never hurt anyone.

Daley Tocher In 90 minutes of continuous play pickup hockey last night, I let in 10 goals on 50+ shots. Most of these goals came on 2-on-0s. The teams were very lopsided (not in my favor), but I was still feeling down... that is, until the other goalie and I switched teams and he let in 5 goals on his first 5 shots.

Daley Tocher Charitable group tries to set the record for longest hockey game. After 4 days of non-stop hockey, score is 485-254. Not the best GAAs for the goalies, but it's in the name of charity. :) http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2011/02/14/ed-worlds-longest-hockey948.html?ref=rss

Daley Tocher Peter Forsberg plans another return to the NHL tonight. I wish him nothing but the best, while at the same time sadly expect the worst. This guy is a warrior. http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2011-02-11/forsberg-returns-to-avalanche-lineup-tonight

Daley Tocher I'd like to wish a big birthday shout out to Wayne Gretzky, 50 today, and perhaps the most under appreciated of the world's superstar athletes. He netted 50 goals in the first 39 games of a season. Only 5 players have hit 50 in 50, and Gretzky's the fastest by 7 games. Gretzky scored more goals than any other player. 894. Still, if you threw away every one of those goals, Gretzky would still be the NHL's all-time leading scorer with just his assists.

I'll agree with you on principal, Steve. And lord knows I love tough hockey... but Gretzky's numbers are just so far and beyond every one else's that I think extra weight needs to be placed on them (opposed to subtracted from them). Gretzky almost doubled Howe's point per game pace. Fun fact: While Howe was a prolific scorer and feared tough guy, he only recorded one career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

Here's a fun statistic for everyone: The number of Steves in this comment thread has doubled in the past 24 hours. :)

Daley Tocher New Years Resolution Observation #1: Cavemen must have been hungry all the time. Paleo diet is many things, though filling is not among them.

I am eating an amazing amount of veggies. I think the reason I'm not getting that "full" feeling is because before I was 1) overeating pretty much constantly, and 2) eating an amazing amount of grains. Rice and wheat especially.
Daley Tocher   at 8:43pm January 10
I've been eating about 3-4 ounces of nuts a day, mostly almonds. Also a hard boiled egg here or there. Aside from that, I've been having a portion of chicken breast, lean pork chops, beef stew, beef jerky, and lean steak once or twice a day with my (usually uncooked) veggies. I can safely say that I've completely cut processed sugar from my diet (in the last 10 days).
